Mobility Services

Ambulatory Transportation

Butler Mobility’s ambulatory transport service, can provide transportation to and from medical appointments, errands, family functions, or other points necessary.  Ambulatory patients can walk on and off the van free of assistance.

Wheelchair Transportation

Butler Mobility, operates 12 wheelchair vans designed to transport the wheelchair bound patient to and from medical appointments, errands, home, and functions.  Our fleet utilizes large spacious vans with hydraulic wheelchair lifts and can accommodate any size patient with either an electric or manual wheelchair.

Deciding Between Ambulance and Wheelchair Transportation

Deciding on whether to utilize Butler Medical Transport for ambulance or wheelchair is normally pretty easy to decide, but on occasion this can be a quite challenging task.  The most important thing to remember when deciding what type of transportation to utilize is the safety of the patient.  If the patient can not safely support themselves in a wheelchair or has an altered level of consciousness, it is not practical and safe to transport the patient by wheelchair van.

In most cases, health insurance WILL NOT pay for wheelchair transportation.  In these cases we can either bill the patient directly for the services or bill the sending facility with proper authorization for contracted facilities.  If a patient is being transported home, it is important to remember that we CAN NOT take patients up or down stairs in a wheelchair.  It is extremely dangerous and unsafe to do so.

Remember that a wheelchair patient just has to sit in a wheelchair, they are transported in the wheelchair and secured in the van by safety restraints.  Both the wheelchair itself and the patient are properly restrained prior to transport.  Wheelchairs can also be provided during transportation if needed, however this needs to be stated during the set up of the call and the wheelchair cannot be left with the patient.
